Outpatient Treatment

Are you in crisis?

As a leading provider of adolescent treatment in North Carolina, PORT Health strives to provide premiere prevention and treatment services for children and adolescents across Eastern North Carolina. Childhood and adolescence can be a challenging time, especially when there are problems with behavior, attention, mood, or when there are difficulties at home or at school. Experimentation with substances and drug/alcohol use by the youth or family member can further complicate a child's development. If problems go untreated, children/adolescents can develop low self-esteem, perform poorly at school, have troubling relationships with friends and family and not live up to their potential. We believe with quality therapeutic interventions, children/adolescents are able to develop the coping tools and life skills needed to acquire the highest level of functioning possible.

Our uniquely comprehensive approach to treatment begins with gathering information through the assessment process to custom-tailor treatment for our patients. We provide several types of therapy, such as:

  • Family therapy
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy

In addition, our agency provides specialized services including:

  • Day treatment
  • Residential services for adolescents

PORT Health's focus on patient outcomes guides our approach to all treatments, and using our results-based practice models is essential to the success of our child and adolescent services. PORT Health is committed to providing effective child and adolescent services in combination, provided by an interdisciplinary team of caring and professional counseling and medical staff.

PORT Health offers comprehensive child/adolescent outpatient services including:

  • Comprehensive assessment to include Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN)
  • Evidence-based curriculums
  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy including both psycho educational and therapy components
  • Family therapy including both individual families and multi-family groups
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Community Supports
  • Medical consultations and medical services by licensed psychiatrists including psychiatric evaluations and medication management
  • Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET)/Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Twelve-step facilitation, self-help, and peer support groups
  • Natural supports

Prevention Programs

  • Early Intervention (EI)
  • Juvenile Justice Mental Health Substance Abuse Partnership (JJMHDSAP)

The types of service provided are based upon the individuals’ needs, preferences, desires, level of family functioning and the presence of risk factors or absence of protective factors. A variety of treatment approaches are utilized to address these needs and to prevent the necessity for more restrictive levels of care.

In preparation for your first visit with us, please be aware of the following:

  • The parent or guardian must attend the appointments. Proof of guardianship must be provided at the time of the first appointment.
  • The appointment may last up to 2 hours.
  • It may take several appointments to fully develop a treatment plan. This time will allow us to review your child’s records and coordinate with any other service providers to ensure treatment recommendations are a good fit for your family.
  • Bring any records you may have for your child including school, pediatrician, emergency room visits or hospitalizations related to emotional or behavioral problems.
